Job Description

Garfield County Libraries is a progressive organization that fosters a culture of open communication, trust, shared learning, and independent quest for knowledge.  At Garfield County Libraries it is the responsibility of our leaders to build and sustain staff morale, promote work-life balance, and empower our staff.  We are nimble and we not only welcome, we expect, new ideas and challenges to the status quo.  We embrace failure as part of the formula for growth.  Successful Branch Managers here are those who push themselves and their staff out of their comfort zones; actively participate in the growth of their branch as well as the District; are quick to adapt to change; and effectively communicate to all levels of the District.  Garfield County Libraries is a place for innovation and collaboration.  We work in a fast paced, strategic environment with a lot on our plates at all times.

Garfield County Libraries is one district made up of six library branches.  Our Branch Managers see the forest for the trees.  They provide critical leadership to their individual branches while working collectively with the Public Services Management Team in the pursuit of district-wide initiatives and goals.  We celebrate the uniqueness of each community we serve and we bring the strength of a unified district to each of our branches.

Branch Managers spend their days building staff morale, developing community connections, planning events, working alongside the Assistant Executive Director on a wide variety of objectives, partnering with other branch managers on fun and innovative projects, and taking a turn on the circulation desk, and so much more.

If you are looking to make a big impact, to be a part of a highly talented team of individuals who work collectively toward being a trusted and valued resource to everyone in our communities, we want to talk to you!

This is a full-time (minimum 40 hours per week), exempt position.  The hiring range for the Branch Manager position is $52,000 - $66,560 annually (DOE); benefits include medical, dental, vision, and employer contribution to retirement fund; paid vacation, sick, and holidays.

The Community

The town of Carbondale is nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains at an altitude of 6,171 feet.  World class ski resorts, including Aspen, Snowmass and Sunlight, are located within 45 miles of this charming community.  Carbondale residents enjoy a lively arts and music community, great dining, community gatherings and a wide range of economic, social and philosophical viewpoints.

Denver, the Mile High City, is 170 miles to the east of Carbondale and offers a wide variety of entertainment & sporting events, restaurants, shopping and is home to Denver International Airport.

Garfield County encompasses a geographical area of almost 3,000 square miles of which approximately 60% is federal public lands, and the furthest towns are 60 miles apart from each other. The population density is 19 people per square mile.

Our communities are located in beautiful valleys surrounded by high mountain desert, snowy Rocky Mountains, and several amazing tributaries of the Colorado River. A big reason people choose to live in Garfield County is the abundance of outdoor activities, including biking, skiing, soaking in hot springs, fishing, camping, and more.
