Job Description

The Communications Specialist assists in setting the Library’s marketing/communications strategy. Manage, coordinate, and actively evaluate all Library marketing/communications channels. Uphold the Library’s mission and values in creating a brand. Promote public awareness and interest in the Library’s programs, materials, and services. Develop and implement creative and innovative ideas to engage the community. This incumbent supervises employees including the Webmaster and reports to the Library Director. 

1. Strategy. Collaborate with senior leadership to set the marketing/communication strategy for the Library. Plan, prepare, and implement marketing/communication campaigns to grow the Library’s presence in the community based on the set strategy. Suggest new marketing/communication channels based on experience and industry trends.40%
 
2. Content. Develop and distribute content describing and promoting the Library’s services and programs to the community through various mediums (i.e., social media, web, print). Evaluate effectiveness of content and mediums used to distribute content to the community. Review and edit all marketing/communication materials distributed by the Library.40%
 
3. Engagement. Provide training to staff regarding marketing/communication campaigns as needed to ensure effective implementation. Engage staff and the community by initiating and moderating forums in person and online.10%
 
4. Community. Contribute to the Library’s positive public image by building connections and collaborations in the community and drafting communications that may impact donor support.10%
 
5. Other duties as assigned.
Incumbents may be required to work nights and/or weekends and travel to external events.                    Total100%

Additional Info & Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field and 2 years of experience with essential job functions.

·     Maintains current knowledge of library and communication trends, materials, practices, techniques and technology; exhibits a willingness to learn other applications as needed

·     Thorough knowledge of communication channels including social media, web, print, etc.

·     Excellent organizational skills with a high degree of attention to detail

Excellent oral and written communication, including content creation, proofreading, and editorial, and social skills
