POSITION TITLE:  Technology Specialist                EXTERNAL TITLE: Technology Specialist

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  Provides library service to all patrons as needed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:  Works under the direct supervision of the Technology Services Manager

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:  None

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Service to Library Patrons

Shares in the responsibilities of day-to-day Library operations as a member of the Technology Services Department. Provides Library service upon demand, assist patrons with the use of computers and other technology, answer reference questions, place holds, locate material and information in person and on the phone. Knows the ILS and can create and manipulate patron accounts. Provide instruction on the use of the self-check station, Library catalog, online databases, PC reservation, eBooks, printing, mobile printing, and utilizing the Internet. Responds to routine patron inquiries concerning Library procedures and policies; provides staffing at other Library locations as requested. Works with staff throughout the Library district to provide outstanding library service to all patrons.

Technology/Studio

Creation of content for the Library’s digital repository including digitization, photography, and videography. Participates in all phases of content production and works with other library departments as necessary to ensure the project's successful completion. Develop and teach classes that educate patrons and staff about varying levels of photography and video production as well as the associated hardware and software for use during Studio reservations. In collaboration with the Studio Coordinator, shares in responsibilities for facilitating patron and staff access and use of 970West Studio. Participates in off-site projects and acts as a representative for the library with external contacts.

Other Library Duties

Facilitate access to the public computers, Community Rooms, and Study Rooms for patron use. Maintain a working knowledge and thorough understanding of all MCL services, including eResources, web content, eBooks, and Library programs and events. Merchandise the collection, maintain an inviting and well organized library by shelf reading and straightening materials and furniture. Assist with materials inventory, Library programs, outreach, and special events. Communicate consistently and in a timely manner verbally and through electronic communication, work with other staff to complete assignments.

Maintains Self-Development

Keeps up-to-date on Library affairs. Attends monthly staff meetings and trainings; attends weekday What’s Up meetings; attends external and internal trainings as requested; stays aware of Library and Department changes via email, the Library website, and the staff wiki. Stays up-to-date with operational knowledge of all hardware and software associated with the day-to-day operations of the Technology Services department. Knows how to operate 970West equipment associated with patron reservations. Keeps up-to-date with industry standards and trends in video equipment, cine styles, editing, and production. Maintains advanced working knowledge of library-owned cameras, lenses, studio lights, and associated light modifiers.

Performs Other Duties as Assigned or Requested

Performs additional duties as opportunities arise that assist the Department and the Library in achieving specified goals and objectives. Participates in projects the improve Library functionality.

Physical Requirements

Ability to remain standing or bending for extended periods of time         

Ability to maneuver about the library in a timely fashion

Ability to bend to floor level or reach a height of 75 inches

Ability to push movable carts loaded to a maximum of 250 pounds.

Ability to read a minimum print size equal to 10 point

Ability to tolerate dust, mold, etc. that may have accumulated on books.

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver license and transport self to other locations in a timely fashion

Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions

Working Conditions

Subject to many interruptions and seasonal weather when working outdoors, performs duties in the 970West Studio, in the Technology Services department, on the floor of any library location and at various indoor and outdoor “on site” locations around Mesa County and the Western Slope of Colorado.

Minimum Education & Experience

Education associated with the completion of a Bachelor’s degree required.  Vocational or technical school courses of study related to the area of assignment, or four (4) years previous library experience or production studio experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Schedule

Unpaid meal break of at least ½ hour per shift to be taken for each 5 hours scheduled. Must be able to work a flexible schedule and to be available to work flexible hours to cover unplanned staffing shortages. Includes evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
