Job Description

Role: 

Manages the operations of the Collection Resources Department including Collection Development, Bibliographic Services, and Interlibrary Loan.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

30% - COLLECTION RESOURCES MANAGEMENT – Sets standards for the operation of the department, develops concepts, practices, techniques, and innovations to improve the quality of the library collections, challenges operating processes for greater efficiency and effectiveness; manages materials selection, collection maintenance policies, procedures and guidelines; and facilitates problem solving in order to manage the department operations.  (Essential)

20% - RESOURCE MANAGEMENT – Supports direct reports by developing and managing budget, staff and other resources in order to provide the necessary resources to accomplish the goals of the department.  (Essential)

10% - COLLECTION MAINTENANCE – Assures both physical and digital collections are weeded based on relevancy, usage, age, condition, etc. to maintain a fresh and appealing and relevant collection.  (Essential)

10% - OPERATIONS CONTROL – Sets goals for the department, establishes timelines for completion, and monitors achievement by reviewing reports from staff and Finance in order to control operations and achieve desired outcomes for the department.  (Essential)

10% - SUPERVISION OF STAFF – Gets information, makes sense of it, sets objectives, organizes resources and makes decisions, coach staff and provides feedback, manages conflict and appraises performance in order to optimize the expected performance of staff.  (Essential)

10% - ILS DATA MAINTENANCE, REPORTING AND ANALYSIS – Maintains the quality of the information in the ILS database by updating collection codes, overdue rules, manipulating system to reflect organization practices/procedures; maintaining and updating name, subject heading, and series authority records in Sierra database to ensure accurate information in the database and compliance with national standards; develops reports and analyzes data for Collection Resources and District reporting in order to  recommend improvements for operations; provides input to the functionality of the system in order to maintain usefulness of Encore, the database and code integrity.  (Essential)

10% - COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT – Develops a portion of the library district’s collection by analyzing the service community, receiving input from Managers and Librarians, reading reviews and making selections for materials to be added to collection; weeds materials by reviewing suitability for collection goals, physical conditions and check out statistics in order to develop the collection. (Essential)

Minimum Requirements:

Education: 

Master of Library and Information Science

Experience: 

Three to Five years of similar experience
