Job DescriptionDuties and Responsibilities: Creates positive experiences for library customers by performing professional library work including reference service, reader and media advisory, and collection maintenance. Staffs a busy reference desk, serving a diverse clientele of all ages. Promotes community outreach and programming. Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, coworkers, and administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact providing reference service (in-house, telephone, AskColorado, and e-mail) to people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Skill in interpreting, communicating, and presenting information, both orally and in writing. Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate, and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Strong organizational and computer skills. Considerable knowledge of print and electronic reference tools and techniques, collection maintenance and reader and media guidance. Ability to perform teen and adult community outreach and programming. Spanish language fluency is a definite plus.
