Job Description

The Library Executive Director performs professional, managerial, and administrative work of a highly responsible nature in directing and coordinating the activities and facilities of the Library. With considerable independent judgment, discretion and initiative, the Executive Director develops library collections and plans and implements services, programs and activities to meet present and anticipated community needs.

The Library Executive Director is responsible for the preparation and advocacy of budget requests to the towns of Groton and Stonington, and for the preparation and administration of the Library budget in collaboration with the Finance Committee. The Executive Director is responsible for the hiring, training and management of 14+ staff. The Executive Director is the primary representative of the library within the community and fosters the relationships with the two funding municipalities, the Towns of Groton and Stonington. The Executive Director performs all related work, as required, to assure the overall efficient operation of the Library and Library facilities.

The Library Executive Director reports to and receives direction from the Board of Trustees.

The Community

The Mystic and Noank Library www.mysticnoanklibrary.org is a 127 year old historic library located in scenic Mystic Connecticut, a year-round shoreline destination in Southeast Connecticut. Our library is visited close to 100,000 times a year by community members of all ages who enjoy the robust services and programs of a library that embraces the needs of a modern community.

This library is a non-profit (501c3) corporation that receives funding support from the community, from endowments and from allocations from the Towns of Groton and Stonington. This is an Association Library, not a Municipal Library. We have a great staff, an engaged Board of Trustees and supportive volunteers and Friends of the Library. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees. This is a full-time (40+ hours/week) salaried position. Salary is commensurate with experience.
