Full-time Library Assistant I in Collections Management - acts as assistant to the department head in the performance of operations connected with the acquisition, cataloging and processing of library materials for patron use.

**Although Collections Management may seem to be a "behind the scenes" department, because it is focused on the importance of providing access to materials, it is considered very much committed to the ideal of stellar public service.

- Acts as department head in the absence of the Collections Management Librarian, including training and supervision of departmental page, and serving as liaison with other departments.

- Catalogs all adult, young adult, juvenile fiction, large print books and audiobooks, making necessary changes in the OSL database.

- Enters added copies and some new editions into the OSL database.

- Withdraws lost and weeded materials from the OSL database and keeps related statistical counts; reinstates items previously withdrawn as lost or missing.

- Orders and receives 85% of books and other library materials, tracking expenditures of selection personnel.

- Prepares invoices for payment and maintains files of packing slips for all materials received.

- Checks processed materials and distributes them to appropriate departments.

- Performs minor repairs to damaged books, and cleans CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays that are scratched.

- Maintains express book collection, adding and withdrawing titles and revising monthly Express Books list.

- Uses ILS to determine need for additional copies of heavily reserved titles.

- Processes materials (stamps, jackets, labels, etc.) when needed.

- Assists in inventories and other special projects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Familiarity with Sierra ILS platform, and with Microsoft Office applications like Word and Excel, preferred.

- Ability to perform detail-oriented work in ILS (Sierra) and in various vendor databases (e.g. Ingram, Baker & Taylor).

- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.

- Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees.

Salary to be determined.
Full benefits package includes medical & dental insurance (optional); paid vacation, sick and personal days; and participation in the Employees Retirement System of Rhode Island pension plan.
