Job Description

Overview of Position 
 The Akron Public Library Board of Trustees seeks an enthusiastic, visionary, community-oriented leader as its next Library Director. 
 The Library Director is responsible for all functions related to the operation of the Library. 
 The Director reports to the Akron Public Library Board of Trustees and the Akron Town Clerk/Council. 
 Full time, benefit eligible, 40-hour per week position. Salary proportionate with experience and education, starting salary $14/hour. 
Qualifications / Job Requirements 
 Strong writing and communication skills. 
 Passion for reading and books. 
 Proficiency with modern office technology and equipment including computers and related software such as Microsoft Office. 
 Willing and able to learn new software applications. 
Responsibilities including but not limited to: 
 Responsible for performing a variety of routine administrative support functions including front desk duties and greeting and assisting patrons. 
 Manages day to day operations for the library including circulation, collection development, cataloging and purchasing. 
 Promotes library services and programs through print and social media. Maintains library website. 
 Actively organizes, develops, and implements programs to benefit the needs of the community. 
 Seeks and applies for grants. 
 Maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with community organizations. 
 Attend regular meetings of and provide a monthly report to the Library Board of Trustees regarding library operations and budget. 
 Attend regular meetings of the NE Directors and work in conjunction with statewide library organizations. 
 Perform other tasks and duties as needed and required. 
 Complete special projects as assigned. 
 Recognizes and reports maintenance issues to the Town. 
Work Demands 
 Normal office/Library demands are encountered daily, including but not limited to lifting of boxes and movement throughout the building. Use of computer technologies is mandatory. 
 Frequent reaching, sitting, standing, walking, talking, seeing, hearing and manual dexterity. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds. Work is typically performed inside an office setting, stairs included. 
 Perform other tasks and duties as needed.

The Community

This open and spacious rural community, known for its ranching and farming, is the county seat of Washington County, named for George Washington. It sits strategically in the center of Northeastern Colorado while also close to major highways that could take you to west to Ft. Morgan and Denver or east to Kansas or Nebraska! The Library was designed by architect C.W. Barrett and is included in the State Register of Historic Properties by the Colorado Historical Society. Akron Public Library is the only public library in Washington County and since 1960 there have only been three library directors at the Akron Public Library.
