Job Description

Description

The Application Support Manager position supports the library application needs of Salt Lake County Libraries. The incumbent will administer various applications including a Polaris Integrated Library System (ILS), and a Payment System (POS), configure software, train staff in its use, and create documentation.

Work with ILS vendor support staff to resolve problems, answer questions and communicate solutions. Assist in the planning and coordination of activities related to ILS developments and upgrades. Full job description at: Salt Lake County Job Description Link

One of the core responsibilities in the Application Support Manager position is implementing and supporting the Polaris automation system.

Applicants should have a broad understanding of the general concepts of library automation, business computing, networks, and Web architecture, with 5 years experience in administering Integrated Library Systems (ILS), preferably Polaris.

Candidates should bring detailed knowledge of one aspect of technology, coupled with an analytical approach, making it easier to solve problems in any area, given the parallels and similarities that exist among all computer-based systems.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Services, or another related field and four (4) years of related experience; of which one (1) year must have been supervisory; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Education may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience.

A Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited university is preferred.

Experience with library software administration is preferred.

Desired Skills

Preferred: Working knowledge of SQL; Experience working in a Windows environment; Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products; Experience with Polaris integrated library system.
