Job Description

Job Summary:

Performs original cataloging of monographic titles, original and copy cataloging of musical scores, print and electronic journal titles, archival materials, government documents, and audiovisual materials. Works closely with colleagues to evaluate and document policies, procedures and workflows for cataloging, database maintenance and non-MARC metadata creation within the library. This is a .50 FTE, unranked faculty position.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential:

Performs original cataloging of unique monographic and serial titles. Performs original and copy cataloging of print and electronic journal titles, audiovisual material, archival materials, and musical scores. Edits records from OCLC and other sources in MarcEdit. Exports records from OCLC and loads into III Sierra. Performs numerous batch loads for various vendors and in various formats, including but not limited to Kanopy, Springer, ScienceDirect, Oxford Scholarship, Safari, etc. Develops and provides resource discovery across a variety of formats, ensures the quality of metadata and cataloging records in the resource discovery tools, and develops new approaches to metadata processes in consultation with various stakeholders. Performs substantive database maintenance, including but not limited to: authority control processing and loads, headings reports, global updates and URL maintenance. Upgrades cataloging applications such as Connexion and collaborates with other CARL member libraries to troubleshoot batch loading of consortium cataloging records. Serves as the work-lead for the Cataloging Assistant, providing day-to-day guidance on duties and associated training. Maintains awareness of current cataloging standards and rule changes and dissemination to relevant staff; maintains a working knowledge of a variety of library and bibliographic metadata formats, both traditional and emerging. Collaborates broadly with colleagues to ensure that library materials are readily discoverable and accessible to meet users’ needs, including assisting with e-resource support and troubleshooting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent advanced degree required.

Experience:

1. Minimum one-year experience in library cataloging department preferred, academic library preferred.

2. Experience cataloging print and electronic monographs, serials, music scores, audiovisual materials, dissertations, government documents, and archival materials, or the equivalent in coursework preferred. Experience batch loading records and batch editing records.

3. Minimum one-year supervisory experience preferred.
