Job Description

Job Summary

The University of Colorado Libraries encourages applications for an Assistant Security Operations Manager! This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of Libraries' patrons and staff, and the security and accurate use of the buildings’ properties and collection materials. In this role the candidate will hire, train and supervise student employees, deploying them as needed to monitor entrances, conduct hourly rounds and enforce Security and building policies. This position will also ensure the accurate closing of the buildings at night and transfer of responsibilities to CUPD Community Service Operations, if applicable. In case of an emergency, the candidate will call and assist emergency personnel (CUPD, fire, Facilities Management). It will also be the candidate's responsibility to maintain statistics regarding building use, document security incidents, help monitor and maintain our electronic security systems.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  1. Assists in the implementation of the Libraries security program. Detects violations of Libraries and Campus security and building policies, regulations, and laws by patrolling buildings (includes Norlin Library and four branch libraries) and by responding to reports of violations; as needed, reports violations to the appropriate authorities. Discourages unauthorized removal of materials by monitoring theft detection systems, video surveillance and access technology. Secures library at the end of each business day.
  2. Primary supervisor of student guards. Advertises, hires, trains, and schedules 40+ student guards over each semester. Posts ads, interviews and hires student guards. Coordinates individual and group trainings of guards. Schedules guards in shared systems to cover 100+ open hours weekly of Libraries. Evaluates guards to assure their accountability. Manages Employee Cloud Services such as shift changes, schedules, round information via Google Docs and Sling applications.
  3. Prepares bi-weekly payroll. Verifies and processes time cards of student security guards and prepares payroll report for HR payment and internal budgeting. Tracks absenteeism of guards.
  4. Provides support during security and building activities and emergency incidents. Monitor building and projects for safety issues; documents crimes or incidents by completing written reports; and responds as needed during security and building emergencies. May be asked to be on-call to provide support in emergencies.
  5. Operates Lost and Found for Norlin Library building. Receives, registers and protects lost personal property that is turned in. Returns lost items to rightful owners or, as campus policy dictates, forwards property to accurate entity.
