Job Description
Overview: The Volunteer Services Coordinator position assumes responsibility for administering and coordinating the effective recruitment and placement of volunteer talents for their respective library branch(es). This position effectively collaborates with internal teams to determine volunteer needs for programs and events. This position plans activities for recognition and support of volunteers.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
Volunteer Coordination:
- Recruits, trains, places and coordinates volunteers to serve branch needs, including teen volunteers, community volunteers, court-ordered volunteers, and volunteers associated with local programs such as A/D Works.
- Works closely with branch staff to determine appropriate volunteer task assignments. Plans recognition of volunteers at a branch and district level.
- Seeks and coordinates additional team projects to create a “premium” experience for both staff and volunteers supporting volunteerism both at DCL and in the surrounding community.
- Educates staff and implements volunteer opportunities, consistent with a Service Enterprise certified volunteer program.
- Addresses requests for volunteer reassignments, problem solving and terminations, in conjunction with Department Head Volunteer Services.
- Exhibits creativity and imagination to devise, develop, and coordinate volunteer services activities for the branch.
Administrative Tasks:
- Works closely with Department Head Volunteer Services to establish regular outreach efforts. Serves as a liaison with local volunteer organizations and agencies.
- Maintains volunteer data for district-level reports.
- Attends and actively participates in district-wide Volunteer Services meetings.
- Communicates effectively with staff and teams, providing both partnership and leadership with programs.
- Competent multi-tasking abilities are required.
- Performs other work duties as assigned.

Technical Performance:
- Maintain expert knowledge and use of computers, Volunteer Connect Douglas County, Microsoft Office Products and DCL information databases. Learn new technology that is introduced in the industry and the organization, as needed.
Experience and Qualifications: Read, write and speak English required. High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree preferred. Two years previous library experience and/or volunteer services experience required. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
Physical Requirements: Must have the physical ability, stamina, mobility and manual dexterity to support a 7-day a week operation. Work at computer stations for extended periods. Participate in meetings and events at various locations and at varied times throughout the day. Ability to read as small as 8pt font.
