Job Description
Under the general supervision and direction of the Library Director, responsibilities will be to manage the public services and technology services of the City’s library system and be responsible for library operations in the Director’s absence; and perform administrative duties in planning, implementing, directing and evaluating library services. Duties will be to work with the Director in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and goals of the Library; provide general supervision to the coordinators of the Children’s, Adult, Technology and Technical Services Departments; guide technology development and implementation for the Library; participate in staff selection and personnel administration and the application of personnel policies; participate in developing goals and objectives for the library, long range plans and service evaluations; make recommendations for service improvements and new services to meet community needs; coordinate staff development and training programs for the Library; design statistical reports and compile data for annual reports; represent the Library at meetings and conferences; attend professional meetings and participate in professional associations and community organizations on library’s behalf; may collaborate with the Community Services Librarian on major publicity, promotional and public relations activities; may provide reference and reader’s advisory services in the Adult and Children’s Departments; and perform related duties as required.
Additional Info & Requirements
A Master’s Degree in Library Science with a minimum of five (5) years’ work experience as a Professional Librarian in a public library; with three (3) years of supervisory experience; supplemented with a strong knowledge of the principles of library administration. Applicant must have strong interpersonal communication, administrative and computer skills and knowledge of library automation systems; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
