Job Description

Position Summary: Operates in a diverse environment to help fulfill the Library’s mission by providing comprehensive, customer-focused public services, or participating in targeted activities related to Creative Services, which encompasses the makerspaces, studios, Knights of Columbus Hall, and programming and services related to those spaces district-wide. The vision for Creative Services is to empower people to learn new skills, develop community, and share their passions. To help accomplish this vision, the position requires flexibility, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to identify priorities and shift focus quickly.

Essential Functions

Functions listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Reports to the Knights of Columbus Hall (KCH) manager for work assignments to locations with makerspaces and studios, as well as the KCH. Works with Library Managers at these locations to provide public customer service support in the creative spaces. May occasionally work other service desks as required.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of KCH, makerspace, and studio services, machinery, and equipment, and assists in maintaining those services and equipment; may train and assist branch staff in the use of that equipment and specific patron needs.
  • Acts as a resource provider for Creative Services areas, including the KCH, makerspaces, studios, and equipment, and technology programming and support.  
  • Provides assistance with district-wide events and services, like All Pikes Peak Makes or Artist of the Knight, with librarian/managerial direction.    
  • Provides support for specialized projects, services, programs and activities related to Creative Services strategic goals and objectives.
  • Engages in community outreach and programming with schools, businesses, or other community groups to expand visibility and partnerships with the library and community in conjunction with PPLD’s Communications and Marketing initiatives.   
  • May plan, create, and deliver local programs; may create program materials, kits, and handouts; and may promote programs through community contacts.
  • May provide guidance and training to other staff or volunteers.    
  • May maintain records for Creative Services, including program and kit statistics, supply orders, machinery repair schedule, etc.   
  • Provides increasingly complex direct public services to patrons as they visit the library, call on the telephone, or communicate in a virtual environment. May also work combined circulation/service desks on occasion.
  • Provides excellent customer service and maintains a courteous, positive image of the Library; maintains confidentiality in all patron and staff interactions.
  • Provides high level technology support to patrons, including providing individualized assistance that requires expert knowledge of equipment and software.  
  • Provides more advanced reference assistance. 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Duties are considered non-essential and include the following:

  • Acts as person-in-charge as assigned; assumes responsibility for safe and effective daily operation of the library in the absence of a supervisor; ensures that security and safety reports are completed accurately and submitted as required.
  • Performs other support activities such as troubleshooting computer and office equipment, compiling data, and monitoring/ordering office or program supplies.
  • Keeps informed about library and department information.
  • Attends regular department meetings and scheduled staff meetings.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

1.    Requires 4 years applicable work experience or a Bachelor’s Degree; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

2.    Requires a minimum of two years of library experience or other customer service experience (library experience preferred).

3.    Requires experience with computer equipment and software applications. 

4.    Experience with makerspace and/or studio equipment preferred.

5.    Bilingual ability is a plus in serving a diverse community.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

Work is primarily conducted in an office setting that provides comfortable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Position requires the ability to sit and use a computer or standard office equipment for extended periods.  Position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time.  Position requires the ability to occasionally reach, bend, climb, twist and squat. Position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.  Position requires the ability to push a loaded book truck. 

Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms, e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire regulations.

POSITION HOURS:            40 hours per week per the following schedule:

                                          Flexible scheduling based on programming and library requirements.

Monday – Saturday: variable hours between 7:30 a.m. - 12 a.m.

Will work on Sundays as needed
